Why Hikes4Happiness Project?

Hikes for Happiness: Women’s Mental and Physical Wellbeing Through Sport and Nature promotes an inclusive, greener, and more connected society by supporting women of all ages and backgrounds to improve their mental, physical, and social wellbeing through sport and nature. The project combines outdoor hiking with workshops on health, nutrition, diversity, and inclusion, while encouraging environmentally responsible “green” sport practices. 

Project's objectives

Hikes for Happiness will: 

  • promote participation of women in health-enhancing physical activity through hiking programs;
  • promote women’s health by increasing awareness of the benefits of physical activity and mental health care;
  • encourage inclusive outdoor activities, using hiking and nature-based activities as accessible, inclusive and enjoyable means of physical exercise for all women;
  • foster wellbeing of women through dedicated workshops on physical health, mental wellbeing, nutrition etc;
  • enhance social connection by provoking opportunities for women to bond and network, reducing isolation and fostering community support;
  • support lifelong learning by equipping participants with knowledge and tools to sustain healthy lifestyles beyond the project lifespan;
  • promote green practices in sport and embrace women as leaders of sustainability;
  • raise awareness on the importance of protecting and respecting the natural environment and promoting learning around climate action using hiking and outdoors sports as a tool;
