Hiking for Well-Being and Empowerment: Organisation Projekt Človek joins the Move4Nature

Movement, especially when experienced within a community or group, can contribute to changing lives for the better and help to rebuild lives of those affected by years of addiction. This impact is even greater when it takes place within a specialised social rehabilitation programme, such as the one offered by Društvo Projekt Človek.

Društvo Projekt Človek is a Slovenia-based humanitarian and non-profit organisation that runs programs for self-help, therapy, and social rehabilitation for people struggling with various forms of addiction. Active since 1994, it is one of the largest institutions addressing addiction in the country. Since 2007, Projekt Človek has also been recognised as a public social welfare program.

Each year, around 1,000 people—both individuals facing addiction and their close family members—turn to the organisation for support. They are guided by 52 full-time staff from diverse professional backgrounds, alongside 45 dedicated volunteers.

Hiking has long been an integral part of Projekt Človek’s program, with weekly excursions ranging from nearby hills to longer trails in the Slovenian Alps. Recently, the organisation has contributed several hikes to the Move4Nature initiative, and participants have been delighted to take part.

One member shared:

“Our community loves nature and we want to keep it clean. That’s why we decided to join Move4Nature. For our third hike, we climbed Vremščica Hill, where we collected a bag of litter along the way. Go nature!”
