Primary School Vransko, Slovenia, recently embarked on a Move4Nature adventure into the nearby forests. Guided by kindness toward each other and the natural world, 87 children (grades 1–3) led by their teacher Nataša Pečovnik, learned that being active, staying connected, and caring for the environment all go together.
Before setting off, the children created colorful posters to share the purpose of their hike and proudly wore Move4Nature T-shirts. Through these small acts, they showed that even the youngest among us understand the importance of physical activity, teamwork, and environmental stewardship.
Kindness and gratitude, the school emphasizes, are the foundation of warm relationships. They create a pleasant atmosphere in classrooms, on playgrounds, in the forest, and at home. The respect, patience, and care we show each other are mirrored in our attitude toward the environment. When we learn to listen to and help people, we also learn to listen to nature. Every kind step, every good thought, and every gesture of respect counts, this is how we build a world that is beautiful to live in.
Teacher Nataša Pečovnik shared her impressions of the day:
“The children, of course, enjoyed themselves. We took trash bags with us on the hike, since one of its purposes was also to collect litter. To our surprise, we returned to school with empty bags, as there was no trash along the way, which is wonderful.
We teachers like to take advantage of new initiatives and use them as opportunities for learning. The students were especially happy to learn that they could keep their T-shirts at the end of the hike as a reminder to continue being ‘kind to people and kind to nature.”
