Step by Step Towards Sustainability: EU-Funded "Move4Nature" Project Implemented in Širvintos

From May 2-4, 2025, the picturesque surroundings of Širvintos hosted the European Union-funded project “Move4Nature.” The project’s goal was to encourage young people to engage in more outdoor activities, such as hiking, while also ensuring a cleaner environment for us to live in.

The initiative was successfully implemented by the Širvintos Sports Club, in cooperation with partners: the Širvintos Sports Center and the Lithuanian Field Hockey Federation.

The project gathered significant interest, with over 40 young athletes from various parts of Lithuania – Šiauliai, Kelmė, Širvintos, Vilnius, and Rudamina, – actively participating in the Move4Nature Train the trainer’s programme, including hikes, educational activities and exchange of experience between Youth leaders.

Representatives of the Širvintos Sports Club emphasized the project’s importance in educating the younger generation. “We believe this project will help prepare young leaders who will not only actively promote a sustainable lifestyle themselves, but also inspire others. Hiking in nature is an excellent platform to combine physical activity with environmental awareness and the dissemination of sustainability ideas,” stated Ugnė Chmeliauskaitė, International Programs Coordinator at the Širvintos Sports Club.

Project participants were delighted with the opportunity to gain new knowledge and skills. “We learned many new things about leadership, organization, and met colleagues from different cities in Lithuania. It was fun to participate in different challenges and just be together,” shared the young project participants.

The “Move4Nature” project not only provided concrete skills, but also encouraged young people to take a more active interest in environmental protection, sustainability, and outdoor movement. It is hoped that the young ambassadors trained through this project will actively contribute to promoting a sustainable lifestyle in their communities and organize interesting and informative hikes, spreading the message about the importance of nature conservation. The initiative by the Širvintos Sports Club, supported by the European Union, took an important step towards fostering a more sustainable future.
