Growth of Recreational Women’s Tennis

Time frame: 2026 – 2027
Role: partner
Type: Erasmus+ small collaborative partnership

Why TENNIS4WOMEN 2.0 project?

Despite the growing visibility of women’s tennis at elite level, participation gaps persist at grassroots and recreational levels, particularly among girls and young women. Tennis, while offering strong health, social and lifelong participation potential, often remains perceived as competitive, inaccessible or not sufficiently inclusive at entry level. The first Tennis4Women initiative demonstrated that targeted, well-designed grassroots interventions can effectively address these barriers and re-engage young women in physical activity.

TENNIS4WOMEN 2.0 builds on these lessons by moving from pilot action to structured capacity building and wider European impact.

The project responds directly to Erasmus+ Sport priorities by strengthening grassroots organisations, empowering practitioners and promoting inclusive, health-enhancing physical activity for women and girls. By combining practical implementation with training, digital tools and dissemination, TENNIS4WOMEN 2.0 aims to systematically promote gender equality in sport, strengthen the capacity and resilience of grassroots sport ecosystems, and support lifelong participation in physical activity by positioning tennis as an inclusive, accessible and sustainable sport for girls and women.

Project Objectives

Through structured engagement, capacity-building initiatives, and strategic partnerships, the project will promote inclusivity, accessibility, and the growth of tennis as a key recreational sport for women. To achieve this, the project will:

  • Develop training resources to enhance the skills of coaches, practitioners, and sports organizations.
  • Strengthen cross-border collaboration to scale innovative solutions that boost female participation in tennis.
  • Equip practitioners with modern coaching methodologies to engage young women and provide opportunities for social inclusion.
  • Encourage female adolescents to take up tennis, fostering lifelong participation.
